Pete Davidson is stepping into his next big role — fatherhood — and he couldn’t be happier about it.
The comedian and Saturday Night Live alum opened up to E! News about expecting his first child with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, who confirmed the news with a cheeky pregnancy reveal on Instagram on July 16.
“Everybody’s just been super excited for me, because they know it’s been my dream,” Davidson said at the New York premiere of The Home on July 22. “I’m very lucky and very, very happy.”
The Bupkis star got candid about his goals as a future dad: “I’m excited to take care of something and show it the childhood I didn’t have,” he explained. “I assume you just try to give them what you didn’t have — and avoid doing what you didn’t like.”
Davidson also shared that some of his closest friends have been in his corner with advice and encouragement. “They all just have been like, ‘You’re going to be great at this. It’s the best thing you’ll ever do in your life.’” He even got some solid dad tips from comedy legend Adam Sandler, and fellow SNL star Colin Jost has chimed in as well.
Hewitt’s Instagram announcement included a sweet carousel of photos — including a clip of the couple marveling at their baby’s sonogram, a cozy snapshot of Davidson cradling her baby bump, and even a hilarious SpongeBob meme that read: “One of y’all hiding your pregnancy, I can feel it.” Her caption? “Welp, now everyone knows we had sex.”
The couple went public with their relationship earlier this year after being spotted engaging in PDA during a beach day in Palm Beach, Florida. Their romance comes after years of high-profile relationships for Davidson, including a whirlwind engagement to Ariana Grande and a headline-making fling with Kim Kardashian.
But now, the funnyman seems to have found his person — and he’s ready to embrace fatherhood with open arms (and a sense of humor).
